True Mom
Jacob has come down with a terribly runny nose and the saddest sounding little cough. Given his condition, he hasn't been incredibly crabby today, but there was a constant battle with finding a good balance between his runny snot and wiping it off (which he hated). This evening, I felt like an adequate amount had dribbled down to his mouth, so I reached into my pocket and grabbed some kleenex I had stored away and wiped off his red little nose. Phil, witnessing this event, told me I was finally a "true mom" since "that's what moms do." I'm not quite sure what I have been for the past eleven-and-a-half months, but I'm glad I finally made it to "True Mom" status :)

The Men in My Life.
On this Valentine's Day (Jacob's first Valentine's Day), I could not be more in love with the two men in my life...
When we first got pregnant, we were both convinced that we were having a girl. On a shopping trip with my mom, my mom actually bought the cutest little pink sweater from Janie and Jack (which we later returned). On our big twenty-week check-up, the conversation with our nurse conducting the ultrasound went something like this:
Nurse: Do you want to know want the sex is?
Me: Yes, definitely!
Nurse: Do you have any idea what the baby is?
Me: Oh, yes! It's a girl!
Nurse: Well... there's his male parts.
While I was slightly shocked at this moment, I could see Philip out of the corner of eye just beaming. The car ride home was when I heard the first "That's my boy!" Fast forward to earlier today...as Jacob came toddling over to me, arms up and ready for a big hug and kiss, Phil said, "such a mommy's boy" and I know I would not have it any other way.
Loving my boys...

Friday Tears...
Today was a rough morning. Usually, Jacob is fine when I have to go to work, but today he cried and cried and cried when I was getting ready to go. I probably made this worse by picking him back up and giving him more hugs so he would stop crying... only to start again when I handed him over. Of course, these moments just make my heart hurt...
In other news, Jacob discovered his belly button and anyone else's belly button he can get ahold of. He pulls up his shirt or anyone else's shirt to spot this intriguing part of the body, touches it, and then giggles like it is the funniest thing in the world.

Nine Days and Counting!
It actually hit me today that we are only nine days away from Jacob's first birthday. It is amazing how quickly this last year has flown by. It truly seems like only yesterday that I was waddling around with a big belly (thirty pounds of a big belly), decorating the baby room, reading books and more books on raising a baby, and feeling anxious/excited/thrilled/scared about our new arrival. I loved him then, still tucked away giving me small kicks to let me know he was getting ready for his arrival, I loved him the moment I laid eyes on him and his beautiful head of hair.. .but what amazes me, is how quickly this love continues to grow. I tear up everytime I read him "How Do I Love You?" My favorite lines...
"How do I love you? Let me count the ways. I love you on your very best.. and very worst of days..... And though I'm sure you'll never know, I love you more each day."
How did I get so lucky....

Parties and Superbowl!
We had quite the busy sunday today. We took Jacob to his first birthday party for his friend at Gymboree. He had so much fun playing with all of the equipment and singing songs. Since he missed most of his afternoon nap, we only lasted until half time at our friend's superbowl party. How did the weekend go by so quickly?
I think Phil had just as much fun as his little one :)

Loving the bubbles...

Just like Mommy's eyes...

Best buds.

For the love of a picture...
What an amazing (chilly) day we had at Forest Park! Philip and Jacob were both troopers as I tested out a new camera... and loved it. Here are a few of my favorites...

To eat .. or not to eat....
Jacob has not been the best eater the past few days. We think it might be because he is loading up on his four bottles. He thinks it is the funniest thing to spit out his food and throw it all over the floor. In fact, if you ask him, "What's in your mouth?" the series of pictures below demonstrate exactly what he does.
We cut out his 3:00 bottle and now just give him a snack with formula in a sippy cup. I can't say he is a huge fan, but he certainly eats more at dinner! Other big news - Tooth #7 popped through last night (which must be why he didn't sleep well at all). It was his lower right tooth which means the lower left will soon follow. Testing out a new camera this weekend.. looking forward to taking some pictures tomorrow!

New Shoes
My mom bought Jacob the cutest little pair of shoes (maybe it is because I always let him run around in socks!). Thank goodness the weekend is just around the corner!

look at those beautiful eyes!

Mommy's Day Off
Jacob's little rash on his belly and back made me take the day off work today so we could go see the doctor. Honestly, I can't say that I minded too much at all :) The rash doesn't bother him a bit so we have had quite a fun day already. He is napping now so I might try and actually get some work done. Here are a few pictures from the day. I absolutely love this new camera I have been borrowing for the past three days and am getting ready to buy a new one (if I can actually make a decision about which one I want). My little hobby is really all I want to do these days and really, how could I not... I have the perfect little subject!

How could you ever say no to these eyes?

I love how focused he really is on playing the keys:
